Most routine PF tasks need no paid help at all. Here's the honest list of what's free, official, and doable in minutes — and where the line actually sits before something becomes worth paying for.
Telling readers how to avoid paying for something is the most credible signal a consultancy can give — so here's the honest, complete list of what EPFO already lets you do yourself, for free, without needing anyone's help.
…the task you're facing isn't actually on this list — for example, an employer who won't attest a claim, a service-history gap requiring documentary reconstruction, or a claim that's already been rejected and needs a specific fix rather than a routine filing. Those are genuinely more involved and the relevant specific guide, not this list, is the right starting point — see all help guides.
Employees: Anyone with a routine PF task — most first-time claims and simple corrections fall squarely into the free, self-service category.
Employers: Employer-side ECR filings and compliance tasks are separately handled through the employer portal — see PF/EPFO Compliance for that side.
Pensioners (EPS members): Checking pension status and downloading service-history documents are both free, self-service tasks.
NRI members: The same self-service list applies; NRI members can generally manage KYC and claim filing remotely through the same portal.
This list covers routine, single-step tasks. It doesn't cover situations that need documentation assembly and follow-up over time — an employer non-cooperation case, a service-history reconstruction, or an escalation after a grievance has already failed once. Those are legitimately more involved than a portal click, regardless of who handles them.
For anything on this list, attempt it yourself on the portal before assuming you need help.
If a routine task doesn't go smoothly, the specific point of failure tells you which guide actually applies.
Reserve paid help for the cases that are actually more involved — employer non-cooperation, record reconstruction, repeated rejections.
If you've tried the free route and it genuinely isn't moving — a claim stuck well past the normal window, an employer that won't respond, or a grievance that closed without resolving anything — that's the point where a second, structured look at your specific documentation tends to help.
Never pay anyone to "expedite" a routine, self-service task — that's not how the official process works, and it's a common scam pattern. See our fraud alerts guide.
Independence disclaimer: NidhiSetu is an independent private EPFO consultancy — not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representing EPFO or any government body. EPFO's own services are free; the fee here is for diagnosis, documentation, follow-up and escalation, agreed in writing before any work begins.
Safety note: We never ask for your OTP, UAN password, bank-login details, or payment details over WhatsApp, phone, or email.
Send me what you tried and where it stopped, and I'll tell you honestly whether it needs more than a portal fix.
